Filmmaker Known for ‘SNL’ Dies of Kidney Cancer

Matt Villines, a graduate of Bishop Kelley High School and the University of Oklahoma who was known for his “Saturday Night Live” short film projects and other comedy works, has died of cancer at 39.

The Tulsa native and filmmaker established himself as a creator of comedy shorts for “Funny or Die Presents” before beginning his work on “SNL” digital shorts in 2012 and creating some of the show’s “best short films,” said “SNL” co-head writer Bryan H. Tucker.
